The Emmanuel Baptist Church family invites all past members, and the community to come out and join in the commemoration of the Church’s 92nd Anniversary on Sunday, October 15 th.

The theme is “Emmanuel, in the tradition of the Black Church, our Refuge in the time of storm, and Hope for tomorrow”. The homecoming Sunday morning worship service begins at 10:00 am with Rev. Dr. Donald R. Cook, Sr., Pastor/Organizer of the Harvest Tabernacle Worship Center Ministry in Los Angeles, CA as the guest preacher.

Dr. Cook attended Los Angeles City College, Grambling College, American Baptist Theological Seminary, Pepperdine University, where he received a B.A. degree in Religion and Psychology, the University of Southern California, Bornstein Memory Institute, and Eula Wesley University for a Ph.D. in counseling. He is a Graduate of the Los Angeles Police Department Technical Reserve Police Officer, and Los Angeles County’s First Black Full-time Jail Protestant Chaplain, and also is a member of Who’s Who in Religion. He received his Ministerial License from the Church of God in Christ and his Doctorate of Divinity from the Los Angeles Bible College & Seminary.

Dr. Cook is the recipient of numerous accolades and awards for his athletic abilities in the areas of Track & Field, Boxing, and Football. In addition to his work in the ministry and community, Dr. Cook answered the call of duty for his country and served in the United States Army Special Services.

Dr. Cook has done extensive touring of the South Korea peninsulas as an Ambassador of Goodwill for better relationships between the United States and Korea. Twice to Israel, to further his education and study of the Bible, as well as to be baptized in the Jordan River.

Dr. Cook served as Vice President of the Ecumenical Fellowship Coalition of Korean and Negro relations, possesses an Attestation of Pilgrimage from Israel, Affiliated with the Los Angeles Police Clergy Council, Administrative Assistant to the Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Churches for the State of California, Superintendent of 4th District for the Southwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of California, Commissioner of Education Churches of God in Christ, Santa Monica, California, Radio/Television Ministry, Watts Rehabilitative own Recognizance Board of Directors Member, English Proficiency Honors Award from Los Angeles Unified School District and USA Track and Field Certified Official.

During his 30 years as Organizer and Pastor, Forty individuals were called to the Ministry from the Harvest Tabernacle Worship Center family, including both men and women. Seven now serve as Associate Pastors in local churches, two are now Pastors. One six year old and one eleven year old has accepted their call into the Ministry.

The ministry of the Harvest Tabernacle Worship has two locations, Los Angeles and West Covina California. The hands and arms of this ministry reach across the oceans as far as Sierra Leone Africa, where a church is now under construction, for the people, a school and future orphanage for the children of Sierra Leone.

Dr Cook is also known as a Master Teacher, an Educator, Chaplain, Counselor, Tutor, Musician, and Arbitrator, Litigator, Ambassador, peacemaker, Father of three, a daughter, Chisa Christine, and two sons Donald II and Barrington. He is a brother, friend and husband to the beautiful Debra R. Cotton-Cook.

Following the morning service, a smorgasbord of “down home cooking” and entertainment will be presented, representing the Black Church tradition, culture, and heritage down through the ages.
